CSG license buy-back extension a pathetic con
MEDIA RELEASE – 20 March 2015
The Greens NSW mining spokesperson Jeremy Buckingham today said that the Government’s announcement that they intend to extend the coal seam gas buy-back scheme until 30 June 2015 was a pathetic response to widespread community concerns, a waste of taxpayers’ money and an attempt to con voters who are outraged at the NSW Government Gas Plan.
“This is a pathetic response to the community outrage at the Government’s Gas Plan and its intention to turn large areas of NSW into toxic gasfields,” said Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham.
“It is also a gross wast e of taxpayers’ money, as these licenses can and should be cancelled without compensation.
“What we are seeing is a Minister and a government trying to con voters, one week out from an election, into believing that this is a significant response to the widespread opposition to coal seam gas.”
“The risks to our land, water, climate and communities are too high to let this industry proceed and that is why the Greens are calling for a complete and permanent ban on coal seam gas,” Mr Buckingham said
