New Nationals Leader Troy Grant fails to back farmers

MEDIA RELEASE - 28 October 2014

The Greens NSW mining spokesperson Jeremy Buckingham has today slammed Deputy Premier and new National Party leader Troy Grant for refusing to commit to supporting farmers over coal seam gas and mining companies after he was repeatedly asked if he would do so in an interview on ABC NSW Country Hour today.

“It is extremely disappointing that the new Nationals leader Troy Grant has refused to back farmers over coal seam gas and mining companies and has decided to stick with policies which have been widely condemned for failing to protect our best agricultural land,” said Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham.

“The Strategic Regional Land Use Policy fails to ensure any land in NSW is off limits to mining and gas extraction and Troy Grant has now gone on the record backing this approach.

“It is disappointing that Troy Grant is treating farmers with the same level of contempt as Andrew Stoner before him.”
