Missing Mt Penny documents indicate a cover up and should be referred to ICAC

MEDIA RELEASE – 14 March 2012

The Greens NSW spokesperson on mining Jeremy Buckingham said the Greens were gravely concerned with the number of documents withheld from a Parliamentary call of papers relating to Mount Penny and believed that the matter should be referred to ICAC as soon as possible for a thorough investigation.

After an initial investigation ICAC delivered the Legislative Council a large number of documents that might also have fallen within the scope of material in the order for papers made by the Parliament in 2009.

“I originally referred this matter to ICAC and the Clerk of Parliament based on a few documents I thought were missing, but ICAC’s search as revealed a mountain of important documents that were hidden from the Parliament,” said Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham.

“The huge number of missing documents indicates a cover up of serious corruption allegations around the Mt Penny coal tender.

“The urgent question is why these documents were withheld, and who withheld them, and why?

“Barry O’Farrell must refer this matter back to ICAC to investigate as soon as possible. The Government must not delay ICAC investigating through an internal Parliamentary Committee.”

  • The attempted cover up continues. Good on you, Jeremy, for your pursuit of this critical issue. And, thank goodness, we have The Greens to keep an eye on this subversives and holding them to truth.
