Cane toad Newman’s action on coal mines puts O’Farrell tortoise pace to shame

The Greens NSW spokesperson on mining Jeremy Buckingham said new Queensland Premier Campbell Newman was putting Barry O’Farrell to shame when it came to action on the clash between mining and agriculture. Campbell Newman’s has made a decision to stop the coal mine and coal-to-liquid plant at Felton, and the expansion of a coal mine at Ackland in the Darling Downs.
“Campbell Newman has done in 72 hours, what Barry O’Farrell has failed to do in over a year - keep a commitment to stop mining on productive agricultural land,” said Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham.
“Overnight Queensland Premier Newman has stood up to the big mining companies and made the call to stop two destructive mines. After a full year, Barry O’Farrell only has a draft Strategic Regional Land Use Plan that has been widely condemned as a fizzer.”
